She has been modeling for advertising Liril soap, Dabur Lal powder Close-Up toothpaste and Limca, receiving many prestigious modelling offers, including brand ambassadorship of the Jewels of India, an annual jewellery exhibition. She hit the international scene when Maybelline made her their new international covergirl face.
At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, she was awarded the title of Model of the Year. Shortly afterwards, she was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006. She also won two trophies at the Idea Zee F Awards in 2006 - Female Model of the year (Commercial Assignments) and Fresh Face of the year. She recently did a commercial for Moods condoms. Deepika Padukone is also a successful brand ambassador for a leading cloth line as well as Jewels of India with a present brand valuation of 80 lakhs. Apart from this, she has also been announced the brand ambassador for Kingfisher Airlines. To add to this she has also taken up the brand ambassadorship of Levi’s Denims as well as Parachute coconut oil. Deepika Padukone has created this identity for herself in spite of being the daughter of the legendary Prakash Padukone, who was the World Badminton Champion and is a brand by himself.
Deepika Padukone looks a natural athlete with a height of 5 ft 9 inches. She was born on January 5th 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark and spent her childhood in Bangalore. Deepika Padukone was associated with the glamour world from the very childhood and has appeared in various advertisement campaigns including that of Close-up, Liril and so on. Deepika Padukone has received formal training in Bharatnatyam dancing and has also played badminton at the state level like her father. But unlike her father she could not continue the game because of her board exams and to add to this was acting which was her passion as she could associate herself with it but she was not very comfortable with playing badminton. Deepika’s mother, Ujjala Padukone is a travel agent. This beautiful actress has a younger sister named Anisha. Her graceful appearance and dimpled smile made her feature in Kingfisher’s Swimsuit calendar 2006. The title for the female model of the year for commercial assignments and Fresh Face of the year at Idea Zee F Awards has also been awarded to her. This actress has maintained her stardom with grace as she is very calm and composed. Aishwariya Rai is her idol and to be like her she has a long way to go in her acting career.
Like the usual trend in Bollywood, Deepika Padukone has already been linked with various men and the recent gossip is her relationship with the famous cricketer Mahindra Singh Dhoni.
Now leaving apart the reel life and coming to her real life, Deepika Padukone is a very timid person with lots of values which she has inherited from her parents. She is not at all an extrovert. During her spare time, she is either spending time with her friends and if not that she prefers to fly home and spend time with her family. Her favourite films are Matrix and Charlie’s Angels. She has always admired three women in the industry whom she saw acting when she was growing up and they are none other than Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and of course Aishwariya Rai.
Deepika Padukone has signed a film directed by Priyadarshan which is named ‘Pirate’, also starring Kunal Khemu and Shreyas Talpade and will also feature opposite Akshay Kumar in the film ‘Made In China’ in the recent future.
According to Deepika Padukone there are three D’s which are needed for someone to grow in any field of life and they are dedication, discipline and determination. Within this small span of 21 years she has acclaimed fame and has a huge fan following. She is the heartthrob of today’s youth and the most promising newcomer. Success has not changed her fundamentally and she remains the down to earth person. Today she realizes that her responsibilities have gone up as people expect much more from her. Selection of good roles is the most important strategy for her, but anyways Deepika is certainly smashing the records at the box office these days.

Chat with Deepika
STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART: Deepika says the Om Shanti Om team can’t think beyond the film.
Actress Deepika Padukone is making her debut with the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Om Shanti Om. We caught up with the actress and asked her about the film, fellow actress Sonam Kapoor and her date for the London premiere of the film.
CNN-IBN Just weeks before your big debut releases, are you nervous, anxious, a bundle of nerves? What is it?
Deepika Padukone: All the words that you have used.
CNN-IBN What are you going to wear for the London premiere, which is going to be one of the most grand affair?
Deepika Padukone: I will definitely be wearing Manish Malhotra. He is someone whose style I admire and it suits me a lot. He has styled the entire film for me and there is no one else I would go with for the premiere.
CNN-IBN Who is going to be your date for the premiere?
Deepika Padukone: My parents.
CNN-IBN There is also another film that is releasing the same day as yours. It is also the launch pad for two new comers. Do you feel the competition, or you are sure of what you are doing?
Deepika Padukone: Not at all. There is absolutely no doubt that we have made a fantastic project. We are confident about what we have done. We can’t think beyond Om Shanti Om.
CNN-IBN What is the one thing that you want to say to Ranbir Kapoor or Sonam Kapoor?
Deepika Padukone: I’m sure they have also worked as hard as we have so I would like to wish them all the best.
CNN-IBN You’re being touted as the next Aishwarya. What’s your comment on that?
Deepika Padukone: Does she even know this? For me it’s a huge compliment. She is someone I have grown watching. I’ve been watching her ever since she won the Miss World. And she is partly responsible for me wanting to get into this industry.
CNN-IBN Thank you so much for talking to us.
Deepika Padukone: Thank you.
Deepika: The new Babe in Bollywood
Now that Farah Khan’s “Om Shanti Om” has been declared a hit, Bangalore’s 21-year-old Deepika Padukone is the new rage of the Bollywood. Long-limbed and fresh-faced Deepika’s bubbly presence is another big reason for the film’s success apart from Shahrukh Khan’s charisma. More than anyone else, the person who is over the moon over Deepika’s success is her father Prakash Padukone, the badminton legend.
For the past few days, the trainees of the Tata Padukone Badminton Academy have been watching the film, courtesy Deepika Padukone.
In a recent chat with The Hindu, Mr. Padukone gave full credit to his daughter.
“It was a good show and she worked for her success. I am proud that she has made an impact,” he said.
What pleases him is the fact that Deepika was not a whit overawed by Shahrukh Khan or for that matter anyone else.
“She has always been level-headed and knows what she is doing,” said Mr. Padukone. If Deepika did not choose to be model or Bollywood star, she would have become the most glamorous badminton star in the country. She had played a few State-ranking tournaments as a sub-junior with moderate success. But badminton’s loss was Bollywood’s gain.
Mr. Padukone wants Deepika to choose her roles with care and pick the right ones.
“What I would love to see is that she plays some good roles, not just glamorous stuff,” he said.
Will she act as badminton star now that films such as “Chak De” are a big success?
Mr. Padukone is excited by the thought. “Why not? That would be a good idea. She could enact my own story, how as a youngster I struggled to make it to the top, eating, sleeping and playing just badminton and struggling to go on tours and living always in suspense, whether I would board the flight or not. Yes, I think there is enough masala in it,” he said.
The model-turned actress, who plays a traditional girl in the movie, is humble in her success and believes she has a long way to go in the tinsel world.
"When you start working in a movie, you never think that it's going to be a superhit.
You just enjoy working," she said attributing "a lot" of credit to her co-star Shahrukh Khan, who plays an actor in the film based on the theme of re-incarnation. Deepika confesses to have learnt many a tip from the film legends of yesteryears - Hema Malini and Helen - to help her play the character of a traditional girl of 70s in her debut film.
First week collections of OM SHANTI OM are out and the film has clearly left behind the DHOOM:2 first week record of 35 crores far behind. At 40 crores plus, the film now stands as the biggest Bollywood box office opener of all times.
